Due to the ease of use and the fast speed like 25 mph Electric skateboards provide, people have started shifting to them now. There is a vast majority of people who’re using this skateboard. However, scooters are now also available in electric versions. Yes, you heard correctly. Now, the manufacturers have installed a remote and battery in them which make them work just like an Electric skateboard.  But, the performance that a scooter provides is way different than an Electric skateboard. So Electric Skateboard VS scooter, which one should you go for?

In this article, I’ll compare the two to discover the answer. This will enable you to select the one that is the finest choice for you. As this article contains a lot of useful information, make sure you stick around to the end so you can learn everything.

Getting to the point without getting distracted, let’s begin.

Electric Skateboard VS Scooter/ Overview

Before I walk you through the difference between these two vehicles, let me give you a quick overview of each.

Electric Skateboards

Electric skateboards are the latest type of skateboard that run on motors and come with a battery and remote control. The first Electric skateboard was made in 1997 by Louie Finkle.

And since then, due to the latest technology and techniques, skateboards have become more advanced.

An electric skateboard’s speed is managed by a remote, unlike a traditional board. When you ride it, you have to hold its remote controller in your hands to have control over the board.

The best thing about an Electric skateboard is that when its battery dies, it becomes just like a regular skateboard. Meaning, you won’t need to carry it in your hands even when it’s not charged. You can still keep up with your riding.

Scooter

Scooters have a seat, a platform for the rider’s feet, and an underbone or step-through frame. This way, comfort, and fuel efficiency are ensured. There have been motor scooters on the market at least since 1914, and some of the earliest motorcycles had elements of scooter design.

The scooters of this era, however, did not have as many features as the scooters of today. Now, as stated earlier as well, scooters have become electric.

You’re no longer required to use your own energy for riding over a scooter, the motor and the battery installed in it will make it run automatically with you standing over it. Sounds interesting?

It’s time to do a comparison between both. Let’s do that quickly.

Electric Skateboards VS Scooter/ A Comprehensive Comparison

To determine which vehicle has the better features, let’s compare the two.

1) Design

When it comes to the design, the Electric boards are the same as regular boards. They’re no different. You have to stand on them to ride. On the other hand, the deck and handlebars on scooters provide riders with great comfort. Some latest models of electric seats even include a seat that you can sit on.

2) Weight

Since electric scooters are big, they tend to be heavier than Electric scooters. Because they include a handler as well as a deck and sometimes even a seat which makes them heavier.

In comparison, The Electric scooters are very light as they neither have a stand, deck, or anything. All they have are the wheels, board, and a motor installed in them. That’s it.

So, in terms of weight, Electric skateboards are the winners.

3) Weight Capacity

So, you just saw that scooters tend to be heavier than electric skateboards, but which of them carries most of the weight? Electric skateboards are typically lighter than traditional boards.

Because of their low centre of gravity and four wheels, electric skateboards can carry more weight.

The electric skateboard clearly wins this category.

4) Safety

No matter how beautiful a skateboard or a scooter looks, if it doesn’t provide safety and a good brake system, it’s not worth going after. So, Electric Skateboard VS scooter, which one is the safest?

Firstly let me tell you one thing, both of the vehicles can be dangerous if you don’t know how to ride them. For that reason, learn to ride them well and then ride on the road or in crowded places.

In terms of safety, Electric scooters do better than Electric skateboards. Because you get good control over the speed in them as you’re standing on them. Also, they’re just like motorbikes.

You don’t need to turn them by moving your body or something. All you have to do is to use their steering to turn them in any direction.

Conversely, Electric skateboards are not so easy to use, especially when you’re riding them in crowded places. Why? Due to their motors, they run too fast and hence can go out of your control sometimes and cause you to meet with an accident.

Also, you have to move them with your body which does not always work. Well, if you’re an experienced rider, then you can use them properly too.

In my opinion, the winner is an electric scooter.

5) Tires/ Electric Skateboard VS Scooter

When it comes to the tires of both, Electric scooters do a great job at it. Because they usually come with Pneumatic tires that work tremendously on roads. They have a good grip as well as their flatness makes them easier to maintain. What about Electric Skateboards tires, though?

The most common material used for electric skateboard tires is polyurethane. Tires made from rigid foam prevent air leaks.

These tires may be used in both rough and smooth conditions. Both vehicles have the same tires, so there is no difference between them. They hardly differ from one another.

6) Speed

Depending on the quality of the motors and the scooter’s quality, the speed of an electric scooter can vary greatly. A top-shelf electric scooter has a higher top speed than a top-shelf electric skateboard.

Since scooters have a larger frame, larger motors can usually be accommodated. Speeds exceeding 60 mph are possible with some of the most powerful motors. Nearly twice as fast as some cars on the road.

7) Portability

Here comes the most important factor which is the portability of both vehicles. So, which one is more portable than the other? In addition to being lighter and smaller, electric skateboards are also more maneuverable than electric scooters.

While at work, school, or shopping, you can carry the e-skateboard by hand or in your bag. You can store the board under your desk or in a locker. The board can also be laid on the ground and you can go whenever you need it.

Transporting these electric scooters is also easy. In addition to being foldable, these scooters are also easy to transport.

In addition to taking up more space and requiring more effort to transport, they are heavier and bulkier. It is easy to assemble the equipment if you have to ride it.

8) Battery Life

The average capacity of a budget electric skateboard’s battery is 150 Wh. 300 Who is the maximum capacity of a scooter’s battery? Again, how strong a battery is depends on its quality.

The battery capacity of an inexpensive modal will certainly be lower. The battery life of electric scooters is still very good.

9) Price

In essence, the price range matters very little when taking a look at skateboards or scooters. What will make you pay more for one than the other? Electric skateboards can range in price from $200 to $3000, depending on the brand and quality.

There are also electric scooters in the same price range, $150-$3000, with different features. There are different types of electric scooters with different capacities, quality, and tire types. Depending on the features you choose, your skateboard or scooter will cost more or less.

So, these are the differences between both vehicles. But, which one should you use?

My Recommendations?

If you’re a beginner, riding an Electric skateboard would not be so easy for you. However, scooters are way easier to ride. Without concern for sliding off or anything else, you can ride on them with ease. Because they’re just like cycles.

However, it doesn’t mean that you can’t learn to ride Electric skateboards. You can learn them too but they’ll be a little harder to learn compared to Electric scooters.

So, my recommendation would be to go for Electric scooters if you’re a complete beginner and just want to ride for fun. But, if you like riding on a skateboard, then you can go for electric skateboards as well.

Now, let’s quickly answer some of your common questions.

FAQ

It costs around $300 to $500 to get a decent e-scooter. There are some more expensive scooters as well depending on the quality.

Final Words

Electric skateboard vs. scooter: which is the best one? Both are the best in their own way. However, for beginners, it’s always a good idea to ride an electric scooter, as it’s easy to learn and ride.

Contrarily, Electric skateboards are also good, but they’re a little hard to learn. So, if you think that you want to be a skateboarder, you can learn how to ride one. Or else, if you just want a vehicle to take you around, then go for an electric scooter.
